The bridal and festive dress was worn throughout the district of Lefkimi at the southern extremity of the island of Corfu. The peculiar headdress – the most striking feature – consisted of four black satin cushions stuffed with cotton or wool round which the hair was wound. To the center of the cushions is attached a large white kerchief (bolia). The kerchief was put on after the marriage ceremony when the dancing begins.
