The Sarakatsans who are of pure Greek stock, are a race of nomads who have preserved intact their customs, traditions, crafts etc. Their wanderings took them practically over the whole of Greece even into Asia Minor as far afield as Caesareia. They lived entirely on the produce of their flocks. The women made their garments from sheep or goat’s wool, which they carded, dyed and wove, producing a special type of woolen cloth. The women also did the entire cutting, sewing and embroidering.
